The first two weeks, I want them to each get a fixed computer
assignment, make their folders in the Documents folder, and spend a
day or two learning to record and play in Audacity.
I want them to be able to make a couple rhythms in different patterns
and understand how that parallels to making the rhythms with their
hands. I think this will come from introducing the laptops in an
instruction-heavy, tied with trying creative things away from the
laptops and cameras.
First day with computers:
each get a number, write it down in their journals/portfolios
we write down their name on a master computer list
make a folder in the "My Documents" with their first name, last name, or initials on it (or nickname if they really want - whatever they want to call it that is something they're called)
write a journal entry, an i am poem, or copy something out of their journal into a word document, and save it into that folder.
(possibly make nested folders inside, titled "songs," "pictures," "movies," and "journal")
talk about battery life, shutting down completely, and sharing computers (collaboration good, hogging/taking not good)
